Camels

     

Camels eyes are protected by wind-blown sand by two rows of extra-long eyelashes:

  • one on the upper lid
  • one on the lower eyelid
 
     

 

In addition to this, each eye also has a very thin third eyelid that moves with a side to side motion.

These act as windscreen wipers, brushing away sand or they con close these third eyelids to protect their eyes - and they can still see through them!
