Shoulder of Mutton - 10.75 Miles - Seven Stiles

On the spur of the moment we decided to ascend to the Shoulder of Mutton via the Poet's Stone - a steeper walk (with steps in places) than our normal route but with some lovely views on the way up. We also extended the walk by visiting The Harrow, which is sadly still closed, though they were selling lots of plants and flowers for charity.

We had breakfast sitting on a bench near the trig point at Cobbett's view - a lovely warm day with beautiful clouds.

We were greatly dismayed to see that several stiles had been added - apparently to deter cyclists from using footpaths, but bad for my knees! This has caused me to add a new record to the walk: the number of stiles! This walk now hosts SEVEN stiles!

A wonderful collection of fungi on a pile of wood chips at the beginning of the walk

More fungi   Sheep under my oak tree

I've never noticed the structure that links these buildings - I wonder what's in there?   I also wonder what is being sprayed on the crops!

Ashford Hangers   Hypericum

Views on the way up to the Poet's Stone - if you look carefully you can see the radio mast on Butser Hill

Viper Bugloss - thanks Ed!   A brief rest at the top

Camera perched on top of the trig point   Way off in the distance is the A3

I have a go with a selfie!

FIRST stile of the day   SECOND

THIRD   FOURTH

FIFTH   SIXTH

SEVENTH   A naturally decorated tree

We don't often see rabbits - they are animals of dawn and dusk but there were plenty in a meadow in Sheet
