Wednesday 27 May

Stoner Hill - 7.0 Miles

Although we did this walk last week we so enjoyed it that we decided to repeat it. The forecast was for temperatures up to 25C so we got up early and left home at 7:20! It was worth it, it was a comfortable temperature throughout the walk.

The walks starts by walking along this path across Merrits Meadow. The path has a gate across it which is automatically locked between dusk and dawn.

These trees are just on the right of the path as we pass Bedales School

We passed this Horse Chestnut tree on 19 May...   ... by the 27 May it was looking rather tired!

Some spectacular bracket fungi   Some interesting tree roots

A wonderful path through Beech trees   The view from our breakfast seat - the small brown dot in the middle of the field is a deer! We also saw a woodpecker.

On the seat there is a brass plaque
with the following text:

MARINE RICHARD HOLLINGTON

Remembered by the parishes of Steep and Stroud
26th December 1986 - 20 June 2010

Afghanistan

TO LIVE IN HEARTS OF THOSE
WE LOVE IS NOT TO DIE

A couple of weeks ago it was young cows on our path - today it was a horse that stubbornly refused to budge!

Should have kept quiet - there were cows, but they were no trouble!
