Wednesday 21 June 2017Rowlands Castle to Petersfield: 11.9 miles - 25,957 stepsThis is the Summer Equinox - the longest day of the year and my Dad's birthday: he'd have been 107. We've been having some very hot weather so I decided to get up early and catch the 07:11 train from Petersfield to Rowland's Castle, then walk back. I was disappointed to find that I was too early to use my Senior's Rail Card but still enjoyed the ten minute journey to Rowland's Castle. It was 17C as I set out and rose to about 26C by the time I got home - I was glad to have left so early. Having left early I didn't have time for breakfast at home but took some meusli, a banana and some milk with with me. I had thought that the field just before Compton would be a good place and when I got there I was delighted to find that the farmer had baled his hay into conventional shaped bales which were comfortable to sit on - and they smelt wonderful too. I saw a hare (though it could have been a big rabbit) and a slow-worm.
