Petersfield - Stoner Hill - Petersfield: 7.62 miles - 16,652 steps - 3 hours

We've had more rain so I wanted a walk that avoided muddy foot paths so I started off on one of my standard walks, going past Steep but then, instead of going up to The Shoulder of Mutton joined the road up to Island Farm and along Ridge Top Lane.

There was quite a bit of mud but not as bad as on my last two walks.

At one point I was startled by a noise behind me - turning round I saw two deer only a few feet away. They ran off into the woods before I had a chance to photograph them!

My oak tree   For those who don't know: a hanger is a wooded hillside

The path leading up to Ridge Top Lane - quite a climb!

Woods seen from Ridge Top Lane

Sometimes the path was a little muddy...   ... other times it was mud and puddles!

I've never noticed this little pond   Looking back at the hanger

At the side of the path on the way down from the
hanger is a wooden seat.

On the seat there is a brass plaque
with the following text:

MARINE RICHARD HOLLINGTON

Remembered by the parishes of Steep and Stroud
26th December 1986 - 20 June 2010

Afghanistan

TO LIVE IN HEARTS OF THOSE
WE LOVE IS NOT TO DIE

I thought "That's a nice tree to to photograph" - then, as I got closer I saw that there was an alpaca under it!   The belfry of Stroud church - one of the parishes mentioned in the plaque on Richard's bench
