Petersfield - Shoulder of Mutton - Petersfield: 8.08 miles - 17,660 steps

This is a fairly hard walk because most of the way to The Shoulder of Mutton is up hill, though of course it's down hill from there! Having enjoyed eating my breakfast on last week's walk I decided to repeat the exercise this week - and I knew that there was a seat waiting for me at The Shoulder of Mutton. Much of this walk follows the Hangers Way - hanger being a Hampshire term for a wooded hillside

I kept a look out for the ingredients of my favourite jelly: Hedgerow Jelly - blackberries, sloes, wild plums and rose hips, though of course none are ripe yet. I saw quite a few hazel nuts too.

I don't often come across cattle on my walks but today came across a whole herd of cows, including a bull and several calves. Fortunately they were more scared of me that I was of them!

I've been photographing this tree each time I do this walk and hope to show a year-in-the-life of an oak tree!   A quiet steam, just downstream from...

... what once was a mill race   Breakfast is served!
Nyewood have a scare-crow competition each year - a few are still around:
